Farewell, Occupy Montreal. We hardly knew ye.

A momentous but inevitable event took place this week: the dispersement of the Occupy Montreal camp two blocks from where I live. Watching the protesters trudge defeatedly to another park nearby while the police moved in to clear the space they’ve inhabited for the past five weeks, I found myself feeling sorry for them and pondering the extent to which their misdirected rage and somewhat muddled messages have made a difference. A highly scientific poll (basically, questioning my friends) revealed that few Montrealers are familiar with the protesters’ philosophy, and one even thought all the fuss was a longer-than-usual hockey riot.

On another note, this piece from the Journal de Quebec offers a humorous take on the lessons the campers may have picked up during their ordeal.
